Who would have thought that writing an action/suspense novella would take me on a personal journey through the hell that refugees are facing around the world today. In my research for this issue, I took the map of the Middle East and followed the various routes Syrian refugees are taking to escape their war-torn country. Crisis centers are set up all over the world but are totally inadequate. The governments in Europe and the Middle East are challenged on how to handle the incredible surge of people.

The first photo breaks my heart. The second photo of the Serbian/Hungarian border makes me angry. This is where “Rasha” ends her journey in complete despair. The Hungarian government has closed its borders to refugees passing through. Instead they are constructing a secondary highly fortified fence and refuse to allow anyone to pass through their country even on the way to somewhere else. This is in complete defiance of the UN Refugee Convention of 1951 and the 1967 Protocol that says:

States are responsible for protecting the fundamental human rights of their citizens. When they are unable or unwilling to do so – often for political reasons or based on discrimination – individuals may suffer such serious violations of their human rights that they have to leave their homes, their families and their communities to find sanctuary in another country. Since, by definition, refugees are not protected by their own governments, the international community steps in to ensure they are safe and protected.

In my new novella JET-Displaced, the Raven Group once again tackles the serious issues that face the USA and the world today. In the first three novellas the Raven Group with the help of JET, fought the Mexican cartels, stopped a human trafficking ring, exposed Chinese hacking, annihilated a Hong Kong Triad, blew up an ISIS plan to steal 50 billion dollars and overall kept the United States of America safe from those who threaten it’s people.

In a traumatic turn of events JET and her daughter escape an idyllic safe house in Mexico and find themselves on the run once again. The Raven Group comes to their rescue with strings attached. Jet must travel to Paris to present an audacious plan to solve an international crisis brewing on French soil. In the meantime Luke Raven uncovers a plot for a WMD developed in Seattle; and a simple trip to Paris turns in a precarious direction requiring JET’s indomitable skills to save an entire nation before it’s too late.

JET-Displaced, book 4 in JETKW Lynda Filler based on the NYT/USA Best Selling Author Russell Blake JET Series.
