I was recently asked on Quora, what are the best self-help books you have ever read? I didn’t have to think about it because two of them saved my life. And the first is the story of what happened to me that required all my years of self-help to heal.
In 2008 I was given 6 months to live. (LOVE the Beat Goes On)
Every single day I have immense gratitude for the practices I developed over the years to stay physically and emotionally healthy. It’s not easy. But the resources are there for you if you look.
In 200/7/8 I was going through a rough time physically. I was treating myself for sinus infections and thought I’d developed an allergic reaction to the medication. And then one day I had a serious attack of ‘shortness of breath (I thought it was the altitude of Whistler Mountain in BC) and realized I was having a heart attack!
After months of treatment, the doctors and my cardiologist said I wasn’t getting better. I should get my affairs in order! It was overwhelming for me. But I had a little Irish doctor that told me this:
“Twenty years ago I had a patient who was also diagnosed with an incurable disease. She healed herself.”
Over the years I’d dabbled in all kinds of esoteric studies. It was as if a lightbulb went off! I immediately turned to the various healing modalities and two books that will forever be embedded in my heart. I highly recommend both of these self-help books. It’s the lessons and the influence of both these authors that I turned to when I needed it most.
In 2017 I wrote my own story, LOVE the Beat Goes On, “Powerful and unforgettable” JackMagnus, 5 Star Readers’ Favorite
“This is a book every human alive should read and take away the lessons given. If I could give it ten stars, I would. It’s that good.”J. Sikes
I took all the self-help I’d studied my entire life and put it to good use. Then I shared it with the world. It’s not easy to write a personal book on healing. You have nowhere to hide!
You can see in my dedication on the cover that I thank Dr. Wayne Dyer. So his books are incredible!
And a Book I’ve kept by my side my entire life:
Louise Hay
You can click on the title of each to learn more. But in the later years of my life, I have to say I could not have remained healthy and alive without the help of these amazing books and authors.
Those two books were a strong part of my life, too Lynda, as well as yours. Xo

I’ve been thinking a lot about these things over the past few months. This morning I watched/listened to several earlier Oprah interviews with some of these amazing leaders in spirituality and personal growth. It’s soothing to the soul. Thanks for your comment.
