Books! Thoughts, cells and science.

If I’m not writing, I’m reading, or watching NETFLIX or videos on Amazon. I love to learn new things about our bodies, how our minds work, culture, and other countries. This year I seem to be fixated on India, the Middle and the Far East and will be traveling there next year.

I might be reading the latest in the top 10 in Mystery, or watch a video recently recommended by a friend from India like this stunning musical message.

This made my heart sing.

Or the wise and quite stunning information revealed in the Medical Secrets from Dr. B M Hegde. His theories are not new to me as this is how I healed my physical heart, and wrote to tell the story about it in LOVE, The Beat Goes On.

Love front with quotes

And all this beauty and enlightenment takes us places we have never been. Maybe it spurs the desire to travel to far-away places. Or read about the world, and gain a better understanding of the Universe. I wrote down two titles that Dr. Hegde recommended and have started to read the following one.

All of this made me think about the Amazon Kindle Unlimited program! When you think about it, one month’s membership. $9.99, pays for one book! Everything else you read is free! I love it as an author also because I know I have dedicated readers: they win by not paying every time they want to indulge in their passion to read, and I gain a new reader too!

Here’s the book I recently began reading from Dr. Hegde’s suggestions.

This 10th-anniversary edition of Bruce Lipton’s best-selling book The Biology of Belief has been updated to bolster the book’s central premise with the latest scientific discoveries—and there have been a lot in the last decade. The Biology of Belief is a groundbreaking work in the field of new biology. Former medical school professor and research scientist Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., presents his experiments, and those of other leading-edge scientists, which examine in great detail the mechanisms by which cells receive and process information. The implications of this research radically change our understanding of life, showing that genes and DNA do not control our biology; instead, DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts. This profoundly hopeful synthesis of the latest and best research in cell biology and quantum physics has been hailed as a major breakthrough, showing that our bodies can be changed as we retrain our thinking.

And why not read it for free?

ABOUT LYNDA FILLER and the writing of Silk Road.

Writing a novel is like dating and relationships. You start in wonder and amazement at the magnificent gift (a book idea!) life has given you. The first weeks are exciting (plotting), sometimes frustrating as you try to blend personalities (character development), likes, and dislikes. As you continue, something beautiful (the real story) begins to emerge. Yes, there are surprises (plot twists!!) that drive you crazy or in my case, give me a shiver at the sheer magic of the process! And inevitable little quirks (new, unexpected characters pop up!!)

Life is a journey with many twists and turns. And so is this process that authors go through when we write. I’ve got a vivid imagination and I love to tell stories. I write Mystery, Adventure, Action, Contemporary Fiction and Romance, and I’ve also written a memoir.

Code Raven is my magnificent obsession. The Code Raven Series is based on the lives of a few unforgettable individuals who have served their country with bravery and honor and have lost their lives because of their unwavering beliefs. I chose to honor them by creating acts of incredible selflessness, patriotism, and heart-pounding action in my stories. If YOU are listening from wherever Warriors end up in the after-life, I hope you are enjoying the antics of Luci, Raven, Zach, George, RB, Maggs, Lorena, and now Himanish.

We killed a lot of bad guys in this series. We’ve hunted down terrorists in the Middle East, dealt a blow to ISIS, and the Drug Cartels in Mexico and South America, stopped the abduction of a beauty queen, prevented cyber-heists from China, dropped bodies off 50-story-towers in Shanghai, rescued a kidnapped British-Arab female journalist in Dubai and prevented deadly usage of WMD designed in the USA. We even solved the world-wide refugee crisis in Displaced.

Every time I add to this series, I believe it’s the best Code Raven story ever! But this one is truly special. And as in personal relationships, we always say “But THIS time, this ONE, is the best!

I love to interact with my readers. We banter regularly on Facebook. I have an Author page but the Facebook personal page is where you get the real scoop! I also hang out on Twitter. And BookBub will keep you posted on New Releases. You never know what I’ll post over there! And I’d love you to follow me here. I will send you my newsletter, if you sign up, and a few freebies will make their way to your inbox.

Thanks for stopping by! If this is your first Code Raven book, it can be read alone. I added a glossary with an overview of the main characters just for you!

Here’s what readers have to say about the Code Raven Series.

If you like Lee Child, David Baldacci, and James Patterson, you will enjoy this wild ride with billionaire patriot, Luke Raven, and the Raven Series.

“Get In, Sit Down, and Read like there is no tomorrow. You will not be sorry.” E. Wojdyla

“What an action-packed page-turner! XPOSED is a suspenseful thriller that leaves you wanting more. It was fast-paced, and anxiety filled book!” Amazon Reviewer

“I am absolutely loving these books, I’m worn out because I feel like I’m working as hard as they are to save the US. Luke Raven is got to be one of my favorite lead characters ever, and actually, I’m loving all of them. I’m feeling a little bad for Zach and hope that something happens in the next book to make him smile a bit more.” Kirschersmiles

“I’m hooked on this series and can’t wait to see what will happen next. I love the strong heroes and heroines that help make our world safe. If you like thrillers and spy books this is the series for you!” S. Barnaby

Take a walk on the wild side while Layla explores the sensual and sexy side of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Lie to Me is insanely captivating, entertaining and exciting. It’s a spellbinding story that explores the psychology of sex in a way that defies Coelho’s Eleven Minutes.” R. Dzemo 5 Stars Readers Favorite Review

How many lives have been ruined for the pleasure of an orgasm?
Forty-something Layla Duncan has a dangerous obsession with men who sell steamy sexual encounters to vacationing women in Puerto Vallarta. She infiltrates the underworld of male prostitution, interviews several men and begins to write a mesmerizing exposé of their lives.
What do you do when the lines between your personal life and professional assignment become blurred? Layla finds herself questioning her value system in a titillating yet disturbing way.
Sparks fly one night when she takes a break from her writing and meets the sensual twenty-something Mateo at a local nightclub. The charismatic young Mexican man seems oblivious to his powerful sexual aura but is immediately turned on by Layla. The one-night-stand turns into sporadic hook-ups, while two emotionally damaged lovers long for something neither can put into words.

Lynda Filler has once again delivered a fast-paced, sexy and sometimes gut-wrenching page-turner that will unnerve you and leave you breathless.

“Screw the taboo!”

An older woman/younger man, a conscious theme through my fictional genre, is it still a taboo? And how much older is an acceptable age difference in 2018?

1- I found this on the subject in 2017:

“As one of the leading dating sites for mature singles in Australia, there’s no shortage of older women dating younger men on EliteSingles. Our users’ profiles are manually verified by our customer service team so that we can ensure our members are serious about using our premium service to look for long-lasting love. That means our site is an ideal tool for finding a serious romance with a younger partner safely and securely.”

2- In 1979 Forbes Magazine wrote this:

I’m in love…Coelho

Screen Shot 2018-02-03 at 11.32.45 AM

A review or a reviewer’s musings? You decide…

Sometimes a story/book/novel seizes your heart and refuses to let go. Such is my love affair with this book, Manuscript Found in Accra.

Let me share a few of the highlights from the book. I imagine when I allow myself to finish, I will have underlined at least one hundred sections. I’m savoring every page.

“As far as Coelho is concerned, this “Manuscript Found in Accra” is not in 1099 or 4859, much less at the end of 492. The Copt believes only in the present moment and what he calls Moira–the unknown god, the Divine Energy, responsible for a single law, which if ever broken, will bring about the end of the world.”

“I am not here to tell you that defeat is part of life; we all know that. Only the defeated know Love. Because it is in the realm of Love that we fight our first battles–and generally lose.”

“Wait patiently for the right moment to act. Do not let the next opportunity slip by you. Take pride in your scars. Scars are medals branded on flesh, and your enemies will be frightened by them because they are proof of your long experience of battle. Often this will lead them to seek dialogue and avoid conflict. Scars speak more loudly than the sword that caused them.”

“In the silence of the night, they fight their imaginary battles: their unrealized dreams, the injustices to which they turned a blind eye, the moments of cowardice they managed to conceal from other people–but not from themselves–the love that crossed their path with a sparkle in its eyes, the love God had intended for them, but which they lacked the courage to embrace. And they promise themselves: “Tomorrow will be different.” But tomorrow comes and the paralyzing question surfaces in their mind: “What if it doesn’t work out?” And so they do nothing. Woe to those who were never beaten! They will never be winners in life.”

“Solitude is not the absence of Love, but it’s complement. Solitude is not the absence of company, but the moment when our soul is free to speak to us and help us decide what to do with our life.”

“If you are never alone, you cannot know yourself. And if you do not know yourself, you will begin to fear the void.”

Screen Shot 2018-02-03 at 11.33.06 AM

“For those who fear the solitude, it’s important to remember that in life’s most significant moments we are always alone. Take the child emerging from a woman’s womb: it doesn’t matter how many people are present; the final decision to live rests with the child. Take the artist and his work: in order for his work to be really good, he needs to be still and hear only the language of the angels. Take all of us, when we find ourselves face-to-face with the Unwanted Visitor, Death; we will all be alone at that most important and most feared moment of our existence. Just as Love is the divine condition, so solitude is the human condition. And for those who understand the miracle of life, those two states peacefully coexist.”

THE MANUSCRIPT FOUND IN ACCRA

Manuscript Found in Accra is a novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. The action is placed in 1099 in Jerusalem while the city awaits the invasion of the crusaders. Inside the city’s walls, men and women gathered to hear the wise words of a mysterious Greek man– known as the Copt. The people begin with questions about their fears, true enemies, defeat, and struggle; they contemplate the will to change, and the virtues of loyalty and solitude; and ultimately turn to questions of beauty, sex, and elegance, love.

“Explode onto the page”

One of the best parts of my job as a professional book reviewer is discovering new indie talent, but even more importantly watching that writing talent grow and mature over the years and the books. This is very much the case with this author, Lynda Filler. I had read some of her earlier books and although I enjoyed them and I had a feeling there was something special about her writing and her stories, it is only now, with her latest book, Lie To Me, that I can see that talent literally explode onto the page and excite me, as a reader.
Lie to Me, is a hard-hitting, powerful story about male prostitution in Mexico, as told through the eyes of Layla, an American writer who lives in Puerto Vallarta and writes, freelance for a magazine in the US, and also through the individual male prostitute’s perspectives. Layla is fascinated by both the older men and women who come to Mexico looking for sex and the young, Mexican men who provide it for them, for a fee. What motivates them and how do they cope with the emotional attachments that so often invariably form? Layla also has her own personal demons and is convinced that love, especially with a young Mexican man, is not only silly but counterproductive to her work. she loves the sex, but shuns the attachments, or at least tries desperately hard to do so.
Lie to Me is incredibly well written, tight, taut, descriptive, and everything I’d expect from a long-time, well-established, professional author. It thrills me to see the depth of the writing and the emotions Filler is now able to extract from her work. This is a wonderful story of an alternative lifestyle that may well be eye-opening for some, but fascinating nonetheless. For me, it gave me an insight into a world I knew existed, but like Filler, I guess I wondered how it all worked for the participants. I wonder no more and that is totally due to Filler’s excellent work.
I would definitely recommend this read to anyone who has secretly yearned to escape the rat-race, if even for a short time and indulge in the pleasures and the exotic mystery of another race and culture. With Lies to Me, you can do that, without any attendant risk. A fantastic read and all credit to the author, Lynda Filler. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
5 Stars.  Grant Leishman

WOW! This is What She Said.

This morning I received an inquiry about reviewing products for Christmas giving. I get so much email that I normally delete, delete, and delete some more! And then I remembered this review.

I responded politely: “This reader feels that this book might be exactly what you’re looking for…. LOVE The Beat Goes On.

“This book is going in the birthday bags, Christmas stockings and every get well package that I send this year. Lynda Filler’s journey through cardiomyopathy is amazing, inspiring, and thought provoking about more than just illness. Anyone facing a major obstacle, a fork in the road, or looking to reinvent their lives would benefit from a journey through Lynda’s heart and soul story.” EFinn

My story was both painful and joyful to write. I send you #LOVE and Light on your life journey.

JET-Displaced Rocks!

“Another great thriller in Lynda Filler’s additions to the Jet series.” E Finn

“A story filled with action, danger, and heart-wrenching consequences. Definitely recommended. Well done!” Sabrina Jean

“Their story will bring tears to your eyes and leave an everlasting impression on your heart. People can be so good. I hope to see Jet/Maya come together with this family again.” Melissa Sanchez

Have I told you lately how much I love writing this series? Book 4 has been amazing! JET, Maya, and the Raven Group want to thank you for being a part of their fictional world. The more you buy, the more I write. But let’s be honest, I continue to write this series because it’s so much fun!

After the violent elimination of a sinister group intent on a cyber theft of 50 billion dollars in JET-ULTIMATUM, the ex-Mossad assassin JET and her four-year-old daughter Hannah hide out in an idyllic Raven Group safe house in a remote beach town on the Bay of Banderas in Mexico.

Until she receives a message: Get out now!”

Once again, Luke Raven comes to the rescue and enlists the help of the beautiful and cunning Eurasian Israeli operative JET on a mission to meet with her old friends, the new President of France and his wife Simone. Europe is in the throes of a major humanitarian crisis that undermines the safety and stability of the Western world. The Raven Group and a consortium of wealthy philanthropies have an audacious plan to help. But while they are distracted by the refugee catastrophe, a brilliant Syrian biologist disappears from a private lab at a famous foundation in Seattle, Washington. A plot is revealed to engineer the ultimate bio-weapon, and the race is on to find the virulent prototype before it reaches a megalomaniac in the Middle East.

Jet’s simple mission turns critical when intercepted messages from the Serbian/Hungarian border hold the final clue to this terrifying turn of events. From Mexico to the United States, to France, Serbia, Hungary and Syria, JET rules!

AKA Honesty Can Be Brutal

VISION BOARD 2016

Honesty can be brutal. And it can be scary. But it can also save your life.

When I sat down to write LOVE, The Beat Goes On, many habits that helped me achieve my life goals came back to me. One was the vision board.

In the early nineties, I was living in Montreal, worried about the recession, my future and that of my family. I started thinking about what I wanted in my life. I had two photos on my wall in my office. One showed incredible majestic ski home in Vail. The other photo was the turquoise water of the tropics. I wanted that life. I’d forgotten about both those photos until this year.

When I decided it was time to write LOVE–actually it was Dr. Wayne Dyer who reminded me it was time–I started writing down the habits I’d developed the things that helped me heal from incurable heart disease. Envisioning was a big one. And I remembered those photos.

Have you ever made a vision board? If not, it’s a great way to gather your thoughts on what precisely you want out of your life. Over the years I’ve cut and pasted photos on my cork board, written lists and notes to self. Last year in the fall, I was feeling restless and my dreams were begging me to pay attention. I’ve always been in tune with my heart, so I knew I needed to make changes in my life. I used Canva—a free online website dedicated to graphics—downloaded photos from the Internet, and designed a composite poster of the life I really wanted for myself.

In January events transpired that I could say were out of my control. But, were they?

I envisioned a life that would leave no room for the emotionally draining work I did at that time. I had what I thought was the perfect timeline stretched out over two years. I assumed I was in control. Major changes would have to happen for this life to occur. And they did. Quickly.  And then I woke up one morning saying “Oh my God!” It was clear to me. I knew I had created/envisioned the life I was meant to live.

It’s been a very busy spring. Two months ago I published my first non-fiction, a memoir/healing book LOVE The Beat Goes On. Six weeks ago I began a daily Yoga practice. It has turned into a physical commitment to gratitude for the extraordinary health and life I’ve been blessed to live. I’m writing full time now although Oprah hasn’t yet discovered my book. I’m traveling to Paris this summer to visit family. And my current work of fiction features this amazing home on the water in the PNW. All of the above are on my vision board, the one I created last summer.

Never, ever underestimate the power of your mind.

And by the way, that amazing ski home in Vail, I custom built something even more spectacular in Whistler B.C. in the late nineties. After I sold it, I found that tropical getaway in a coastal town in Mexico.

What inspired this blog? I was standing having lunch in my kitchen looking out at the swaying palm trees and thinking about the newest Jet-Displaced book 4 I’m currently editing. I wondered about my grandbaby in Paris and hoped he was enjoying his first airplane trip to Italy. I’m so excited to be spending a month with them in August. I had the sudden realization that I was truly living The Life I Was Meant to Live.

If it’s to be, it will always be up to me.

Ask yourself the question: do you deserve to live your dreams?

Summed up in few words: drug cartel life, fighting inner demons, looking for love.

Description of the book: ‘TARGET IN THE SUN’, A moving high anxiety romance thriller, takes us on a perilous journey through the explosive dark underworld of organised drug trafficking and the complex, destructive human perils of use, abuse and the carnage it leaves in its wake. Caught up in the onslaught is the powerfully engaging nurture of two lovers, Carlos and Mia, discovering and reaching out in a world that could ultimately tear them apart. An infant loses both his parents tragically and spends his youth and young adulthood in disconnected search and longing, surviving on the streets of coastal Mexico where the beauty and allure of his homeland mix with his relentless desire to belong. Anticipation builds as powerful human emotions span a search for love, acceptance and belonging to existence in a world wrought with escalating illicit drug trade from the depths of lush Mexican jungles across borders in a vast network of distribution throughout America. An expansive coalition of drug enforcement agencies on both sides of the border mount a fierce campaign of surveillance and seizure with swift and destructive assault on the drug lords their ultimate objective.

All the while a young boy struggles with the heart-wrenching prospect of a life of loneliness, sadness, anger, and an unwavering resistance to commitment. Amidst the turmoil of surroundings and circumstance a boy becomes a man in a search for belonging that leads a troubled soul on a dangerous romp from the sultry Mexican Riviera beaches to the heat of coastal nightclubs and salacious entanglements behind closed doors. As time passes, Mia’s visits to Puerto Vallarta become more frequent and her relationship with Carlos becomes ever-clearer. At first mere carnal instinct, a conquest of pleasures, life events and new acquaintance bring discovery, emotional attachment and a burning desire for enduring love as it was always meant to be. ‘Target In The Sun’ is an impassioned story of search and longing for the ultimate connection.

How this book made me feel: the provided description of the book hardly leaves much out, but there is way more to this book. There are three main characters in the book: FBI detective Lucia, Carlos and Mia. While reading this book, I found that the characters chosen in this book are really interesting and disturbed in their own way. I really liked that a character is retelling the story of other characters, which makes two stories going on at the same time. I really liked Carlos as a character; he is this bad boy with incredibly kind heart in a way, and always trying to help. He is very interesting to read about. After reading about the author, Mia’s life story somehow reminds me of the author’s life story. Was the author writing about her wishes and experiences??? Let’s leave that to your imagination. I’m very grateful, that author gave voice to more than one character, it was great to see the story from their perspective and it makes the whole book more interesting to read.

While reading this book, I really enjoyed the plot itself. This exotic life in Mexico and the daily struggle, which ordinary people have to go through, really fascinated me. Even though the story was interesting, I missed some twists and turns in this story, it kind of plodded along. The writing style in this publication was really interesting; it was like a diary with this very naive way of writing. The language was very easy to read, but there were some Spanish phrases for which you might need to use some sort of translator. I am not a fan of long chapters as it gets me bored really easy, that’s why I was very happy to see that chapters in this novel are short and quick to read. This book is not very suitable for young people; it does contain a lot of sexual scenes and talks about sex. I really liked that this book discussed the situations which are everyday life in Mexico. The struggles which ordinary Mexicans have to face to feed their families and how easy it is to slip into a criminal’s life. I really enjoyed that author was discussing the drug problems and how it is influencing all people down the trafficking chain. The ending of the book was really well thought through and concluded the book really nicely. When I heard that there is a second book, I was surprised but at the same time intrigued. So to conclude, if you are looking for something related with Mexican drug cartels, exotic and romantic, give this book a go and you might be pleasantly surprised.

About the author: Lynda lives and creates in sultry Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She writes raw, fast paced, mysterious and sometimes heart-wrenching stories. She’s published three books of poetry, three JET Kindle World novellas, and two LEI Kindle World novellas. TARGET in the SUN is her first novel. Espionage, cyber high-tech thrillers and contemporary romance are her favourite genres. When not writing she loves to photograph the people of Mexico, the wild Pacific Northwest, the healing soul of Sedona, Arizona and the romantic heart of Paris.
