ABDUCTED. Doesn’t that just set the theme? I mean for me it meant action, suspense, and an all-out thrill to read. And once again Ms. Filler delivers. How she is able to pack SO MUCH into these books is a wonder but she does it. And does it WELL.

Book 2 (if you don’t count the pre-quell) continues along with the illustrious Luke Raven and his band of merry men (& women but you get the picture). This time around the Raven group is working on a trafficking case, both human and drugs. But don’t think Ms. Filler is going to leave it cut and dried with just the case. Nope, she throws in twists and turns that will have you gasping.

The characters Ms. Filler has brought to life for us with this series keep getting better and better. The world building and suspense ratchet each book up another level. You will invest your time and emotions in these books and you will come out the other side emotionally spent. But it will be worth it. OH, SO WORTH IT. I chomp at the bit to read these books and can assure you. Ms. Filler is the REAL DEAL. Action, romance, suspense…Ms. Filler delivers it ALL!! These books need to be a MUST READ on everybody’s list. So, get it NOW!!

 ULTIMATUM

“Wow! Just wow! Luci and the Raven Group just get better and better! Action and intrigue continue in this third installment. Cyber war, ISIS, the US and Chinese government. More high tech gadgets abound. We go to Singapore, Washington, D. C., and (whoopee!), Las Vegas in this one. (I love to travel!) As usual, it’s hard to figure out who’s working for who. Great action, Lynda!”DISPLACED

“What do you know about the Silk Road?”
“Are you referring to the old Silk Road trading routes? If you are, the Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes connecting the East and West which for centuries was central to the cultural interaction between them. The Silk Road also refers to both the terrestrial and the maritime routes connecting Asia with the Middle East and southern Europe. Today, of course, it’s the new China Railway Corp route to England. It will cut ground shipping to half the time of the maritime routes. The cost of shipping goods into Europe will fall considerably making Chinese exports/imports even more viable to its trading partners in Russia and Europe.”
“Hmmm.”
“Why do you ask?”
“I heard Ivanov’s men talking about the Silk Road. I’m not sure of the significance, but it’s too much of a coincidence to ignore. Let me search around and see what I come up with.”

Silk Road is the sixth book in the Code Raven series by Lynda Filler. As we have discovered in the previous book/s, this series centres around the Raven Group, which is a top-secret, special ops team who help to keep the world a safer place- and the series chronicles the action-packed missions they embark on. This latest mission may just be the most challenging one yet.
The story starts with Luke whisking Samaar(Luci) away to the Maldives for a much-needed break and Zach headed to Washington DC after a call from his friend Mike, a former Navy SEAL buddy, who needs his help. Himanish is in Geneva doing what he does best, keeping tabs on everything, and starts to put some worrying pieces together. Children are going missing from all around the world, mostly from remote areas, leaving their families devastated. So, when these abductions hit closer to home for members of the team- Luke Raven will do everything in his power to get to the bottom of it all and return the children to their families. This truly is an international mission, taking the team from Canada to Paris, The Maldives, Geneva, Washington DC, China, Tel Aviv, London, and even to Kyrgyzstan in central Asia as they try to uncover who’s been behind a wave of human kidnapping. The team pulls together, digging deep, using all their skills, contacts and networks to follow the trail- as the case becomes more complicated than they ever imagined.
We catch up with characters we know and love, as well as meeting some new ones. I love that each book in this series allows me to get to know the (recurring) characters a little bit better each time. I love watching the relationship between Luke and Samaar/Luci (and adorable Alice) develop more in this book. The little bit of romance and some touching and tender moments helped to lighten the darker topics covered in the storyline.
This is definitely one of my favourites of the series, so far. The story was an action-packed adventure, with dramatic developments, danger, abduction, intrigue, suspense, human trafficking, drug cartels, life and death situations, high stakes risk, covert ops, high-tech gadgets, social and political issues, camaraderie, friendship, bonds, romance, depravity, heart-aching situations, and so much more
I am really enjoying this series, which just seems to get better and better with each new instalment! I am really looking forward to my next adventure with the Raven Group!

Thank you, Ms. Filler!
AND I mustn’t leave out the PREQUEL Code Raven, where it all started! July 31, 2018
Lynda Filler kicked me in the feels with this enthralling prequel to the Code Raven series. For being a short read, at 56 pages, it really gives you a lot. We discover who the series will be around, Raven, well Luke Raven. The background info really sets you up to fall in love with Raven and the supporting characters that are also introduced. I could tell this definitely a stepping stone to what is to come. Mystery and suspense has me wanting to go on to the next in the series right away. I need to know what will come next and where Lynda plans to take us on this journey with Raven.

Lynda Filler was new to me when I picked up her other title, Lie to Me. I was really impressed with her writing skills in that one and have been hooked on her since. She really builds her characters, sets up her plots, and then weaves it into a gripping storyline that will have you hooked from beginning to end. I can’t wait to devour the rest of this series.

By the way, they can be read in any order as they are all standalone adventures of the Raven Group! Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more stories in this series! I have as much fun writing them as you seem to have reading them!

My 10 All-time favorite books

Screen Shot 2017-12-23 at 2.52.02 PM

You know I’m right in the middle of the action in a great plot for novella #5 in my JET Kindle World series, but I can’t resist answering this Quora question. But it’s not going to be what you expect at all. Each book has affected me on an emotional level or given me “ah ha” moments that stayed with me forever.

  1. Outliers: The Story of Success – Kindle edition by Malcolm Gladwell. Politics & Social Sciences Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. (Ah ha) He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? Brilliant. As a Canadian, the explanation about hockey players and their success stays with me.
  2. LOVE The Beat Goes On – Kindle edition by Lynda Filler. Self-Help Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. A journey from incurable to healed. “What would you do if the doctors gave you six months to live?” Everything in this memoir has changed my life and is changing the lives of others.
  3. Dreaming the Soul Back Home: Shamanic Dreaming for Healing and Becoming Whole – Kindle edition by Robert Moss. Health, Fitness & Dieting Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. In 2017 I published the above book—a memoir of a healing journey. In desperation for a cure for an ‘incurable’ diagnosis, I traveled to Sedona Arizona and worked with a Shaman named Akal. He introduced me to Robert Moss. I’ve been analyzing my dreams as a way of healing my soul ever since. This book has a special spot on my shelves.
  4. Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life – Kindle edition by Anne Lamott. Reference Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. (Emotional-for me) An authors’ handbook with all the encouragement and acknowledgment of what it takes to continue on a path that seems impossible at times.
  5. https://www.amazon.com/Lone-Wolf-Novel-Jodi-Picoult-ebook/dp/B005JSV0ZW/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= (totally gut-wrenching reaction to an incredible story) The reviews are very mixed for this book, but there was something in the story of wolves that rocked my world.
  6. You Can Heal Your Life – Kindle edition by Louise L. Hay. Religion & Spirituality Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. I bought my first copy at a psychic convention in 1985 with my sister. Then I bought the 25th year anniversary copy. I lived with this book for most of my adult life. I’ve since written my own book on healing from incurable LOVE The Beat Goes ON.
  7. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change – Kindle edition by Stephen R. Covey. Self-Help Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. Yes, you can learn from books that are perennial best-sellers.
  8. Eat Pray Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia: Elizabeth Gilbert: 9780670034710: Amazon.com: Books I remember where I was sitting on the beach in Puerto Vallarta when a 26 year-old-woman who had recently graduated in Marketing told me about this book. The recent graduate had landed a job with a PR firm to work with this relatively unknown writer who’d penned a ‘travel’ book. A few months later I began a journey, a drive from PV, Mexico to Canada, that would change my life forever. On that trip, I stopped in a bookstore in a mall in Arizona and saw stacks of Eat Pray Love and bought it. Yes, LIz Gilbert affected so many women including myself with this amazing ‘travel’ memoir.
  9. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Series) – Kindle edition by Stieg Larsson. Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. It was so incredibly different than anything I’d ever read.
  10. The Kill Artist (Gabriel Allon Series Book 1) – Kindle edition by Daniel Silva. Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com. I have several authors I read in the thriller/suspense/spy genre. I don’t care what any critics have to say. I don’t bother with reviews. These authors are my constant companions. And Daniel Silva is #1. I LOVE Gabriel Allon. How could you not fall in love with an Israel spy who’s also an art restorer and lives in Venice, restores works for the Vatican, and chases bad guys?

So there you have it.

I’d love to add my own books to the mix but if you’re interested you can check out what I’ve written. I published 3 this year and should be working right this minute on a 4th to add to my JET series.

Happy Holidays!

And don’t forget to check out my books on Amazon.

Welcome to my world. Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Author Lynda Filler delivers yet another exceptional romance thriller with ‘VANISHED in the SUN’, an edgy nail biter novel set in the sultry, sexy coastal Mexico play land of Puerto Vallarta. Lovers Mia and Carlos have found peaceful and loving sanctuary in a remote and distant, undisclosed location through the witness protection program. With past troubles several years behind them, they had the best of all worlds…until the phone rang.

VANISHED in the SUN, second edition of this exhilarating romance thriller series by powerfully engaging novelist Lynda Filler is finally here! Reminiscent of TARGET in the SUN, first edition in the series, ‘VANISHED’ is an exciting and natural extension to the debut novel in which we saw lovers Mia and Carlos ultimately find a new lease on life through the serenity and safety of witness protection at an undisclosed location. Feeling secure after three years, Mia and Carlos would soon discover a mutual desire to return to their beloved Puerto Vallarta. Their ultimate safety is jeopardised for their decision.
Lucia, the infamous and decorated FBI agent who helped Mia and Carlos disappear, changes her identity and retires to the sultry beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She re-unites with the lovers in romantic Paris, France and finds herself in the middle of terrorist events beyond her control. The respite of her newfound freedom is disrupted when the telephone rings and she, Carlos and Mia, are summoned to the call of duty once more.
Central to the storyline is a large group of students who hijack three busses from a cartel stronghold in the Sierra Madres of Mexico that will transport them to an annual human rights demonstration in Mexico City. Upon arrival to the venue, the students are soon accosted and taken into custody by brutal and heavily armed cartel ‘soldiers’.
This high anxiety thriller takes us from the sultry beaches of the Mexican Riviera deep inside Guerrero State into densely wooded jungle where the dreamy landscape takes on dark and sinister undertones.
Lynda Filler captures the exquisite flavor of life in coastal Puerto Vallarta through yet another of her powerful romance thriller novels; crimson sunsets, golden beaches, the sexy allure of lovers meeting and taking chances, quaint local village cafes and fresh seafood dining. There is a dark and sinister underbelly to this Shangri-La; its surroundings teeming with the evils of drug lords and their ruthless cartels in a deadly war for control of a killer trade.
VANISHED in the SUN; this is Lynda Filler at her finest.

A Thriller – Vanished in the Sun by Lynda Filler (A Review)

One of the best things about being a reader of indie authors is watching them develop and master their craft from book to book. I have been able to do that with Lynda Filler and her Carlos and Mia series, with first Target in the Sun and now the sequel, Vanished in the Sun.Although I did really enjoy Target in the Sun, there were some issues about Filler’s style that I found grated a little on me, in that book. In Vanished in the Sun, I’m pleased to say that she has addressed these issues and like any good indie author has become more eloquent and more adventurous in her plots. Vanished in the Sun takes up the story of Mia and Carlos some time after their escape from Mexico to Spain to avoid Carlos’ drug cartel family after Carlos had shopped them all to the FBI. In Vanished in the Sun we see a lot more focus on characters who were only bit players in Target. Lucia and Sofia become main characters in this story with excellent plot arcs for them. What I found with Lynda Filler and Vanished in the Sun is that she is growing as a writer all the time and this is a fantastic sign for what will still be to come from her pen.Vanished in the Sun is a fast-moving, realistic, thriller that is absolutely appropriate and timely in today’s current environment. What is really happening inside the Mexican drug war? Filler’s wonderful novel gives one possible scenario. If you like fast-paced thrillers, this is the book for you.Thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to reading more in the future from this talented author who is clearly growing in confidence with every book. Please do pop on over to my website and check out the many hundreds of books I’ve read and reviewed. Who knows? You may well find your next exciting read amongst these wonderful books. http://bit.ly/2lQJiqi

The Secret of a Successful Mystery: Making the Reader a Participator – WRITERS HELPING WRITERS®

reblog: from The Writing Coach, Excellent POV. Thanks

A lot of great stories have a mystery in them. The mystery may not be the primary focus; it might be the secondary, or the mystery might be so minor it lasts only a few chapters…

5 Reasons to Hire a Professional Book Editor

http://writenonfictionnow.com/5-reasons-hire-professional-book-editor/

By Piers Golden

I often field questions about editing. Many aspiring authors think they can self-edit their work, and they can. But that’s not enough. They need a second set of eyes—and sometimes a third—on their work before it gets published. Today, Piers Golden offers five reasons why you should hire a professional editor before you complete your book manuscript.
Have you just finished writing a book? After spending countless hours successfully piecing together your work, the next big step you’ll want to take is to get your book published. However, sending your book off to a publisher without having a second look over the material may end up causing problems for you in the end.

While you may consider editing your book on your own, it’s best to avoid that task. Self-editing can become a waste of precious time and cause you to overlook major grammatical errors. But there are more reasons to hand this editing of your work to someone else.

While you may consider editing your book on your own, it’s best to avoid that task.

Why You Should Hire a Professional Book Editor
Here are the top five reasons to hire a professional book editor.

1. Objectivity
Having an objective person, like a book editor, look over your book is a powerful way to produce outstanding work. An unbiased person won’t hold back. A stranger reading through your writing will be able to pinpoint areas that need more detail or are grammatically incorrect.

Have you used the word “and” too many times? Are there any other words to cut from your writing? Is one of your chapters lacking substance? An editor will know the answer to these questions.

You can be sure that a professional book editor’s critique will be based on editing expertise. An editor can make constructive remarks on your structure, style, syntax, and ability to communicate.

2. Save Time
Spending hours, days, and in some cases even months, revising your work can be time consuming. After all of the time spent completing the manuscript, this process can further postpone publication of the book. At a certain point, revisions can become a serious waste of an author’s time.

As you begin to edit your work, you might get hung up on certain themes, research, or structural issues. A professional editor can help you avoid this dilemma. A fresh point of view allows the book editor to pick up on problems you may have disregarded or overlooked—as well as the ones you’ve identified and with which you’ve struggled.

Producing a perfect final draft will make a huge difference in the success of your book.

3. Perfect Your Writing
Although you may be an amazing writer, even the finest authors understand the importance of improving their craft. An experienced book editor can advise you on different word usages to better improve the way you communicate. They also might offer structural advice.

Always hire a professional book editor to look over your work, especially if it includes a bibliography or professional thesis. Depending on the vertical about which you write, choose an editor experienced in that field.

4. Help Progress Your Project
Collaborating with a professional book editor can help you with more than just your writing. A skilled and experienced editor has many connections, such as to publishers or public relations firms. These professionals can help with bringing your book to market and creating book-marketing strategies.

An editor that has worked with many clients beforehand understands the process of getting a book published. He can guide you beyond simply editing the book so it meets industry standards.

What separates a good editor from a great one is their dedication to your project. A great editor will not only develop your writing but also enable your book to reach more readers.

Collaborating with a professional editor can help you with more than just your writing.

5. Avoid Publishing Less Than Perfect Work
Your reputation as an author is dependent on your work. Style issues, grammatical errors, and communication problems all detract from your work getting the recognition it deserves.

It can be difficult after publication of your book to go back and fix issues or spruce it up. In fact, sometimes you have to wait until the publisher schedules a new print run—and, depending on sales, you could wait a year or more to fix your bloopers.

If your audience sees less-than-stellar writing, your current book and any future books you write will suffer the consequences. Avoid these possible challenges by hiring a professional book editor. Doing so will save you from the frustration of seeing your prized work go unnoticed or get negatively critiqued.

As you can see, there are many reasons for hiring a professional editor for your manuscript. Producing a perfect final draft will make a huge difference in the success of your book.

A professional editor can help you avoid the frustration, loss of time, and potential errors created by looking over your own work. Plus, you’ll be left with a polished manuscript ready to be handed to a publisher.

Think Long Term. Create A Body Of Work.

This is an excerpt from The Successful Author Mindset. Out now in ebook, print, workbook and audiobook formats by Joanna Penn.

When we see stories in the media about a particular author who made it big, who seemed to come from nowhere, there are usually years of hard work behind the book that went stratospheric.

There are also plenty of authors making a decent living who you have never heard of. Of course, there are always lightning strikes when an author hits a zeitgeist, but that’s not something to base a business plan on.

Narco Orphans NEW RELEASE

Exceptional and captivating author Lynda Filler pulls her readers in once again with this heart-stopping thriller suspense, action drama journey of love, heartache, search and discovery. No sooner than much anticipated ‘The Road to San Pancho’ was released, Lynda Filler’s insatiable appetite for high anxiety in exotic places will leave the reader breathless!

Central to this fast-paced story of young and feisty Peace, a red-headed dynamo who, through the anguish of the recent loss of her mother, finds the beauty and serenity of the seaside village of San Pancho on the Pacific coast of Mexico to be the perfect location to begin her unrelenting search for a father she has never known.

Newfound friend Jared, a rugged and buff heartthrob, extends a supportive hand to Peace during her quest to come to terms with her past and present. All the while, the senseless destruction and killing of innocent nearby village families marks yet another swift and devastating assault by the CIA, DEA and Federales on a mission to capture the elusive and most-wanted Mexican drug cartel crime lord ‘El Chapo’.

Front to back, this gripping novella brings an adrenalin rush of anticipation as scenes play out from the caramel sands of San Pancho. Cascading surf and the fragrance of wild jasmine, combined with scents of the local cuisine, are scintillating. In stark contrast are the dense jungles climbing high into the mountain interface, torrid killing zones where swift and deadly force is waged to weed out a relentless Sinaloa drug cartel and its elusive crime boss.

Tearful and increasingly apprehensive, Peace seeks out clarity through an all-seeing local village Tarot reader who enlightens and proffers a window of opportunity and hope for the young, bereaved woman to reach out and embrace what was in her past and will be in her future that lies ahead.

Embattled by conflicting emotions, Peace finds purpose through the care of grief-stricken children whose sleepless nights and memory-torn days of explosive violence and the death of their beloved parents leaves them orphaned and desperate for love, safe haven and caring.

Nothing hurts more than the pain and anguish seen through the eyes of innocent children.
